Annual Members' Night

Why It’s Time to Move Beyond Single-Use Plastic

Tuesday, February 18, 2020; 5:00 – 7:00 PM

Members and friends are invited to join us for a welcome reception, member news and our featured keynote presenter, Stefanie Penn Spear.

Every five seconds, 60,000 plastic bags are used in the U.S. If we keep producing plastics at predicted rates, plastics in the ocean will outweigh fish pound for pound in 2050. Stefanie will discuss the plastic pollution crisis – local to global. She’ll explain how plastic pollution impacts human health and the environment, and discuss possible solutions to this crisis, including policy, consumer behavior, corporate responsibility and the arts.

Stefanie has spent her career uniting and amplifying the voices of the environmental grassroots movement to mobilize millions of people toward positive change. She has more than 30 years of experience as an entrepreneur and leader, and is the founder of EcoWatch, Expedite Renewable Energy and Stellar Consulting.

In January 2020, Stefanie will be joining eXXpedition, an all-women crew sailing around the world to raise awareness about the devastating environmental and health impacts of single-use plastics. Follow Stefanie’s adventures on Twitter at @StefanieSpear and Instagram @ cle.sup.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

I just joined - when can I start enjoying my benefits?

While you are entitled to start enjoying your benefits immediately, it takes a few weeks to receive your membership card in the mail. If you joined online, you should immediately receive an email confirmation with login instructions and password set-up. Following that set-up, your membership discount will be applied to any applicable event registration online, as long as you log in first.

I joined online, but I didn’t receive an email confirmation. What next?

While www.rookerybay.org sends membership registration confirmation messages automatically, some email providers’ firewall settings identify the messages as spam. Please check your “junk” mail folder. To ensure future delivery, please add rookerybay.org to your safelist.

Do I still need to log in?

We no longer use a log in feature for the website. Contact the Friends by phone (239-530-5972) or email if you have questions about your membership status.

I need to change my contact information - how do I do it?

Contact the Friends by phone (239-530-5972) or email to update your membership information.

What happens if my membership level price has changed?

When your membership expires you will be asked to renew at the new rate. Auto-renew customers will be contacted before renewal takes place.

What if my membership level name has changed?

This change will not affect your membership.

When do I need to show my membership card?

It is best to have your membership card ready whenever you visit the Environmental Learning Center, especially if you have guests. This way the front desk staff can save time checking to confirm what membership level you have purchased to enable quick admission of your guests. Your card is also necessary in order to take advantage of free admission or nature center discounts, as afforded by the ANCA membership included with your Friends of Rookery Bay membership. This includes admission to the Conservancy of SW Florida’s Nature Center in Naples, and many other locations around the country.
