Become a Friend of Rookery Bay

The Friends provide vital monetary and in-kind support for Reserve programs and operations. Our members, volunteers and donors enable us to be a reliable partner to the Reserve and an advocate for preservation and coastal protection.

If you live in Southwest Florida, the Reserve protects YOUR coast. Its 110,000 acres stretch from downtown Naples east through the Western Everglades, encompassing 40% of Collier County’s coastline! Reserve scientists monitor water quality, restore mangroves and manage habitat. Reserve educators host field trips for 4th grade, 7th grade and high school students and coordinate diverse programs for visitors of the Rookery Bay Environmental Learning Center.

If you live outside Southwest Florida, the Reserve lands impact YOU because many migratory birds visit or winter here, and the seafood you eat may have started its life in our estuary waters.

WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Rookery Bay Research Reserve’s(RBNERR) federal funding is in danger of being eliminated and we need your support!!

WHY IT MATTERS

RBNERR is one of the largest remaining undisturbed mangrove forests in North America and staff are responsible for managing wildlife and habitats within its 110,000- acre boundary, which stretches from Naples to the Western Everglades, encompassing 40% of Collier County’s coastline!

The economic, recreational, educational, and environmental benefits provided by RBNERR are significant. Our federal partner NOAA estimates that annually RBNERR hosts 4 million people and conservatively contributes $58 million dollars to support our local community.

OUR IMPACT

Cutting-edge research and monitoring of water, weather, plants and animals help researchers detect issues before they become problems. Science is leading the way for innovative conservation and land management practices, crucial for adapting to constantly changing conditions. Conservation efforts remove non-native, invasive plants and animals to help protect Florida’s beautiful native wildlife. Hands-on field trips and education programs inspire thousands of students and adults annually, fostering greater stewardship of watersheds, estuaries and oceans.
