New exhibit shows watershed changeThe Rookery Bay watershed has changed tremendously over the past several decades. Human activities on land have altered the quality, quantity, and timing of fresh water that reaches local estuaries. A new exhibit in the Environmental Learning Center shows two images that were developed by contractors using GIS as part of the Restoring the Rookery Bay Estuary project, a grant-funded project aimed at improving watershed management and our understanding of the Rookery Bay estuary. The left side shows the habitats present within the 247-acre, pre-development watershed of the Rookery Bay estuary, and the habitats and varying land uses in the 167-acre watershed today.
