Instructors will discuss identification and monitoring of invasive grasses such as cogon grass, Natal grass, West Indian dropseed, torpedo grass, Jarugua, Durban crowfoot grass, and Queensland bluestem. Additionally, students will learn about new chemicals, protocols and treatment techniques for managing invasive grasses today.

Coastal communities increasingly realize the need for adaptation strategies, but many are unsure where to begin. This intensive and interactive course provides individuals with a thorough grounding and practical skills for incorporating adaptation strategies into planning processes. Time in class is provided to practice applying what you learn, and opportunities for local collaboration and next steps are emphasized through discussion, participant activities, and local speakers and examples.

Continuing education credits have been approved through The American Planning Association (14) and The Association of State Floodplain Managers (12).

The Florida Friendly Best Management Practices for Protection of Water Quality by the Green Industries program, commonly known as the “Green Industries Best Management Practices” was jointly developed by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP), the University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (IFAS) and the private industries related to landscape maintenance, called the “green industries.”

This program provides the following CEU's: FDACS 4, FNGLA 4

This training provides landscape professionals more in-depth knowledge about fertilization than the Green Industries Best Management Practices program, and includes skill-building opportunities related to proper fertilization. This class is in the Spanish language.

Esta clase refuerza los conceptos de ferlitización obtenidos durante el entrenamiento en Mejores Prácticas para reducir la posible contaminación del agua (Green Industries Best Management Practices); y cubre la definición, tipos, efectos ambientales, aplicación y manejo de los fertilizantes utilizados en jardinería. Adicionalmente, se hace mención de la ley estadal y las ordenanzas locales que afectan el aplicar fertilizantes de manera comercial en zonas urbanas. Esta clase ense~a a como utilizar y a calibrar un aplicador granular de fertilizantes.

Las Mejores Prácticas de Manejo para la Protección de los Recursos Hídricos de la Florida por parte de las Industrias Verdes, conocidas por sus siglas en Inglés como GI-BMP, fueron elaboradas mediante la colaboración del Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP), University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS) y las Industrias Verdes.

 Limited Commercial Landscape Maintenance - SPANISH`

This training is designed for the Spanish language speaker who can read and comprehend written English language (similar to the terms found on a pesticide label). The attendant takes the class in the Spanish language (where key English terms are explained) and followed by a test in the English language. The attendant who passes the test and also shows proof of a specific certificate of liability insurance will obtain a personal license: The Limited Commercial Landscape Maintenance; which is also known as “The Round Up License”. Esta clase fué diseñada en el idioma Español por la "Univeristy of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences" (UF-IFAS) con el objetivo de satisfacer la demanda de la Certificación Individual en Mantenimiento Comercial Limitado de Areas Verdes (LCLM por sus siglas en Inglés). Esta Certificación también es conocida o mal llamada  "La licencia de Round Up". La clase es para el Profesional Hispano-parlante del paisajismo que está haciendo la transición del idioma Español al idioma Inglés y que quiere ofrecerle más servicios a sus clientes. La técnica muy particular de esta clase, desarrollada por el Agente multi-condado y especializado en clases en el Idioma Español y Bilingües, César Asuaje, examina el nivel de comprensión y de lectura de términos específicos y técnicos en Inglés, traducidos al Español para luego utilizarlos en el exámen que sigue a la clase, que es en el idioma Inglés. El costo de la clase es de 30 dólares y si se quiere tomar el exámen después de la clase, el costo del mismo es de $ 150.00. Si se pasa el exámen, que es administrado por el Departamento de Agicultura y de Servicios de Consumo de la Florida (FDACS por sus siglas en Inglés), entonces se puede optar por obtener la Certificación al demostrar que además de pasar el exámen, el portador también demostrar que tiene un seguro de responsabilidad civil (liability insurance) a la hora de hacer la solicitud del Certificado individual de aplicación de pesticidas de esta categoría.

Esta clase también otorga los siguientes Unidades de Educación Contínua (CEU's): 2 FDACS, 4 FNGLA y 2 LUF.

Cancellation policy: A refund request must be made in writing within 5 business days of the class date. All cancellations are subject to a 25% cancellation fee.
