The Lunch & Learn lecture series hosted at the Rookery Bay Environmental Learning Center invites guests to enjoy a meal while learning about an environmental topic. In honor of Rookery Bay Research Reserve's 40th anniversary, the 2018-19 lecture series, titled “Rookery Bay: Through Their Eyes,” focuses on the history of the Rookery Bay area and the establishment of the research reserve.
The final lecture features filmmaker Elam Stoltzfus, who will share short videos and behind-the-scenes clips from his new documentary, "Southwest Florida's Mangrove Coast." The film highlights the reserve’s story of how a vision to protect the fragile ecosystem between Marco Island and Naples grew to include partnerships with local families and conservation agencies. Produced by Stoltzfus, an award-winning director, and written by Nic Stoltzfus, both of Live Oak Production Group, the film will air on Florida PBS stations in April. A local broadcast on the Fort Myers/Naples affiliate, WGCU-TV, is scheduled for 9 p.m. on Earth Day, April 22.
