NAPLES (Nov. 16) – Friends of Rookery Bay will present a Holiday Shopping Spectacular from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 24 at its nature store within the Rookery Bay Environmental Learning Center, 300 Tower Road, Naples. The event kicks off a season of shopping for people who love environmentally-themed gifts. Proceeds help the non-profit organization support the 110,000-acre Rookery Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve, which encompasses 40 percent of Collier County’s coastline from downtown Naples to the Western Everglades.
Guests visiting the Environmental Learning Center on Nov. 24 will enjoy complimentary seasonal refreshments, photos with the Holiday Batfish, and the opportunity to receive a free poinsettia while supplies last to shoppers spending $50 or more. It is also one of the weekly Science Saturday programs featuring free kids activities until 1 p.m.
From Nov. 24 through Dec. 24, shoppers who spend $50 or more during one day will be entered into a drawing for a gift basket that will take place at noon on Thursday, Dec. 27 on Facebook Live. The nature-themed store features clothing, jewelry, toys, art and gifts for children and adults. Kids will enjoy TEDCO scientific and educational toys, Magic Tees that change from black-and-white to color in sunlight, and books about animals that live in Florida. Outdoor enthusiasts will appreciate birding books and other nature guides.
There is an assortment of hostess gifts, including a red cardinal beaded napkin box, wine bottle holder adorned with alligators, and dolphin glass figurine. Everyone can use a colorful sun shirt or hat with the Rookery Bay Reserve logo. And, as a special treat, supporters of the local environment will love a recently-released commemorative Rookery Bay Reserve 40th anniversary nature print of a snowy egret by local artist Dennis Goodman.
Also from Nov. 24 through Dec. 24, people who purchase a new Friends of Rookery Bay membership for themselves or as a holiday gift will receive three months of bonus membership. Friends of Rookery Bay members enjoy unlimited free admission to the Rookery Bay Environmental Learning Center, a 10 percent discount in the gift shop and programs, advance registration for lectures and other activities, and reciprocal or discounted admission to hundreds of other nature centers nationwide.
Those feeling the generosity of the season can select a paper ornament off the giving tree and provide direct support to the Reserve. Ornaments will start at $5 to research, education and other programs.
