Two manatees were released by the FWC's Fish & Wildlife Research Institute in Rookery Bay Reserve this week. The first was an adult female, which was rescued from Charlotte County and rehabilitated following a watercraft-related injury. The other was an adult male that had been rescued from Tigertail Beach on Marco Island in December, and was treated for red tide intoxication. While most manatees are released near where they were rescued as was the case with the juvenile male rescued in December off Marco Island, the adult female was release there because she was known to frequent the waters near the Port of the Islands marina during the colder months of the year.
