Rookery Bay Shark Research Featured in Florida Weekly

Rookery Bay shark research article in Florida Weekly

Rookery Bay is ringing in 2020 with a front-page story in Florida Weekly featuring our shark research program. The article spotlights Rookery Bay shark researcher Pat O’Donnell and his 20-year study of shark and fish populations in the Ten Thousand Islands within the Reserve.

As part of Pat’s team of volunteers, Reporter Evan Williams experienced a “night in the life” of a shark biologist which included tagging, measuring and then releasing young sharks back into the warm bays of the Reserve.

The article also takes a deep dive into the watershed restoration project in the Picayune Strand as well as explains the water flows into Rookery Bay.

Rookery Bay Research Reserve

Rookery Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve stretches across 110,000 acres of pristine mangrove forest, uplands and protected waters. We are committed to preservation through research, education, and land protection.
