In order to better and safely accommodate the existing, and growing, population of visiting investigators, the Reserve has developed this mandatory registration form. This form serves as your permit for conducting research within the Reserve. Please keep a copy of this registration form with you while conducting research within the Reserve. For continuing projects, please submit an updated registration form annually. Project descriptions will be entered into the NOAA NERR Database.
This form also allows visiting investigators to schedule staff assistance, facilities and equipment to make time spent at the Reserve as efficient and productive as possible. This sheet will also serve to document the types of research activities, locations of study sites, techniques used and any reports/manuscripts generated to allow the Reserve staff to catalogue research activities at RookeryBay. Visiting investigators not requiring assistance, facilities or equipment must also complete this form to ensure that their research is included in the Reserve's catalogue and to avoid conflicts with another researcher's activities, to prevent inadvertent damage to a study site due to the Reserve's management practices (e.g. prescribed fire, hydrologic restoration, exotic plant and animal control) and to provide important safety information. A copy of a funded research proposal can be used to substitute for portions of this form containing redundant information.
Please feel free to share this link with any of your colleagues interested in conducting research within the area managed by the Rookery Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve or its watershed.
Your request will be considered and, within two weeks of receipt, an acknowledgement email will be provided to indicate which services will be available during your visit. In the case of unforeseen emergencies, we will notify you of any changes to this arrangement as soon as possible.
If you will be accessing remote areas (areas out of sight from roads or channel markers) of the Reserve, please plan to have or borrow a cell phone and provide its phone number, your destination and estimated time of return to the front desk (239-530-5940) prior to each excursion.
This form does not substitute for other required State or Federal collection permits. If questions, call 239-530-5964.
Please submit this form electronically at least one month prior to your planned visit. Failure to provide accurate information or notify the front desk of excursions to remote areas will result in loss of Reserve visiting investigator privileges. Thank you for your cooperation.
