In celebration of the Reserve’s 40th anniversary, this popular summer education program provides FREE admission with programming geared towards children ages 12 and younger who are accompanied by an adult. We recommend a ratio of no more than 3 kids per adult to ensure a safe and pleasurable experience.

This week's theme is Animals of the Reserve: Reptiles!

  • 9:00 - 2:00 Estuary Encounter (exhibit hall)
  • 9:30-12:30 Critter Cart (upstairs)

Discover our unique coastal environment with Rookery Bay staff and local researchers!  This week-long program brings students into the field to experience concept in ecology, marine biology, sustainability, and citizen science.

WHO: Program is open to students entering 8th, 9th, or 10th grade with an interest in marine science.

WHEN: 8:30am - 4:00pm, Monday through Friday (early start on Friday @ 8:00am)

WHERE: Dropoff and pickup at the Rookery Bay Environmental Learning Center

WHAT: Explore the bays, islands and beaches of Rookery Bay.  Collect and identify invertebrates and other wildlife.  And enjoy field trips to other marine science and environmental centers.

Program must meet minimum of 10 students in order to occur.

Help celebrate Rookery Bay Research Reserve’s 40th Anniversary! This annual celebration includes staff-narrated boat tours (bus transportation provided to the boat), kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding demos, Estuary Encounter interactive marine life exhibit, kids' games and crafts, behind-the-scenes tours of the science labs, food. Plus, an extra-special line-up of short films about the research reserve, introduced by award-winning documentary filmmakers from Live Oak Production Group, will be shown the auditorium. Admission is free and activities are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Sign-up begins when doors open at 9 am. For those who prefer not to wait in line, VIP passes are available for online purchase.
