Understanding estuaries from the “bottom to the top”

Are you curious about what lives under the waves of our nearshore waters?  How are some of the smallest marine critters linked to some of our top coastal predators?  At our upcoming home schoolers day, students will use microscopes to view and identify different types of plankton and will learn about the key roles they play at the base of our estuarine ecosystems.  After investigating these tiny critters, we’ll move on to activities focusing on some of the biggest predators in our waters and we’ll learn how these two groups of animals are connected and why they are both vitally important for healthy ecosystems.

  • Please note that parents with students in different age groups are expected to stay with their younger children (7-12) after dropping off older students (13-16) at Rookery Bay Research Reserve’s field station
  • Specific activities will vary dependent on student’s age.
  • Minimum number of students for each age group: 10 for the younger group (7-12) and 5 for the older group (13-16)
  • Additional details provided upon registration.

Cost is $15 (10% discount for members), and includes one child and one adult. Each additional child is $15Price includes admission to the Environmental Learning Center for the day.
