Friends of Rookery Bay celebrates the opening of the 2nd Annual Family and Friends of the Estuary Exhibit at the Rookery Bay Environmental Learning Center’s Art Gallery. Artwork in all media focus on the theme of “What Does the Gulf Mean to Me?” FREE.

Saturday September 25, 2010 National Estuaries Day The annual event offers free admission to the Environmental Learning Center and free activities including boat trips in the Rookery Bay estuary, guided kayak trips for ages 12 and older, naturalist-led tours of the 1/2-mile nature trail, nature films (including the local premiere of the 3D film “Wild Ocean”), lectures about local estuarine life and habitat restoration efforts, children’s crafts, touch tank experience, fish feeding at the 2,300-gallon aquarium, boating safety information, food vendors, and other conservation activities and information. Boat and kayak trips are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. The learning center includes interactive exhibits, an art gallery and nature store. Rookery Bay is one of 27 estuarine research reserves nationwide teaching people about our coastal environments on this special day. Read Flyer |

Just in time for holiday gift giving, Friends of Rookery Bay presents a showcase of almost 50 home party vendors and other merchants for one-stop shopping. Representatives scheduled to participate include Avocare, Avon, Creative Memories, Gigi Handbags, Mannatech, Naples Olive Oil Company, Pampered Chef, Pierre & Harry Pearls, Princess House, Shaklee and Tupperware. A portion of all sales will be donated to Friends of Rookery Bay. Admission is $5 and includes Afternoon Tea and Scones. |
Monday November 15 9:00 am – 4:00 pm America Recycles Day:
A nationwide initiative of Keep America Beautiful, this day reminds people that “It All Comes Back to You.” Celebrating its 12th year, the event has grown to include millions of Americans pledging to increase their recycling habits at home and work and to buy products made with recycled materials. The Rookery Bay Environmental Learning Center will celebrate by offer information about ways to reduce, reuse and recycle. Rookery Bay will offer $1 off admission when guests bring a cell phone, laptop, ink jet cartridge, jewelry, digital camera, video camera or MP3 players for recycling. |
Thursday, November 18 5:30 – 7:00 pm Painting Annual Exhibition - Opening Reception
Friends of Rookery Bay, in conjunction with the United Arts Council of Collier County, presents Painting Annual with works submitted by artists from across the country. Many of the works are for sale.

Saturday, December 11 Bookfair and Gift Wrapping at Barnes & Noble:
Friends of Rookery Bay will spend the day at Barnes & Noble, 5377 Tamiami Trail at Waterside Shops, to host a fundraising bookfair and staff the gift wrapping table to accept additional donations. Friends of Rookery Bay will receive a percentage of sales from shoppers who present a Rookery Bay voucher to the cashier or ask that their purchase be credited toward the event. The day will include live animals, artifacts such as animal skulls, nature-themed children’s crafts, the batfish mascot, storytelling by authors whose books are sold at the Rookery Bay Environmental Learning Center’s gift shop, door prizes, and other surprises. |
